Physical

Let's get physical. PHYSICAL! Just teasing....I love Olivia Newton-John as a child and had to have her cassette tape with this song.

Anyway, on to the real deal. I went in for my first physical in 4 years today. I was very frustrated as I have to go to a clinic affiliated with the hospital I work for and the clinic had me with the wrong doctor. I prefer a female doctor and they scheduled me with a man. This is after rescheduling twice because they kept scheduling me with a man. UGH! Anyway, I decided today to keep the appointment as I start school next week and wanted to get this out of the way.

DRUM Roll please....The doctor agreed to let me pursue WLS. I am so excited. I will go to an informational meeting in September. September 2nd to be exact. Then I will have to meet with my doctor and a nutritionist for 6 months before they will schedule my surgery. Unfortunately, I won't be able to have it until next April and I would like to have it done sooner.

The reason I need it done sooner is the second week of June, I will be joining my daughter on a trip to Disneyworld with her high school band and orchestra. I would prefer to be at least 6 weeks post op before going, however I will also be in school at the time and can not afford to take the time off. If I wait until after the trip that will put me into July which is fine, however I need to have 6 weeks recuperation before starting nursing practicums. I am not allowed to do any heavy lifting for 6 weeks postop. So I am in a pickle. What would you do?

I am elated that I get to pursue WLS and I know my insurance will cover it. However I am an impatient person and I want to know the when, where, why and how's right NOW!

School, WLS, and scrapping

Wow, another 6 weeks since my last post. I have been a busy girl. I am currently at work and it's 4:00 in the morning. Before I get any sleep I will have worked 25 out of 29 hours. Yes, you could say I am a glutton for punishment. I was staff reduced 2 days earlier this week and when staffing called to ask if I could work tonight, I had to say YES! BTW, the new job is going great. I am learning so much and tonight we moved into a new section. I don't feel like I am sweating my tushy off.

Right now I am on a 3 week break from school. Summer term turned out okay. I got an A in Medical Terminology and a B in Human Biology. I would have much prefered A's in both classes and if I didn't have a 'timeline' to finish schooling I most likely would have dropped Human Biology and retaken it this semester. I am pretty much a perfectionist and not getting an A bothers me. But considering I am still working on my prerequisites I think I will take the B and be happy. On the 17th I start Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Developmental Psychology and Speech. Financial Aid is in place and I received my books earlier this week. New pens, pencils and notebooks and I am ready to go.

On a different note, I am researching the possibility of having Weight Loss Surgery. I would like to have the RNY done so that I can lose this extra weight I have carried around for 16 years. You see, I was a fairly slim person until I became pregnant with my precious daughter. Over the course of my pregnancy, I gained 80 pounds. The doctor wasn't concerned and said I would lose the weight. NOT! Not only have I not lost any of the weight I have gained an additional 50 pounds over the last 16 years. I have tried every diet out there and I regularly get exercise but nothing will budge the weight. My mom is having the surgery in October and the more I read about it, the more I want to use this tool to become a healthier, thinner person.

I love to scrap book but it seems like the only thing I have done lately is bought more supplies. I will be purging some older stuff soon so that I don't feel so overwhelmed when I want to scrap. I am very tempted to give digital scrapping a try as it is something I can do on the laptop when on the go. Of course, that is when I don't have homework to do. :-)

Well that is it for now. I should be posting more often as I will be working 3 nights a week!

Life....goes by crazy fast

Sorry it has been so long since I have blogged. But since most of this is for my purposes only, that's okay.

I am currently back in college pursuing my nursing degree. After two lay-offs in 2 years it seems time for a change. I am excited to be in school...however it is kicking my tushy! Human Biology and Medical Terminology this term.

I am excited to announce that I now have a full time job. I was worried since being laid off from my last position in January if I would find another job in this tough economy. I am excited to announce I will be a unit secretary in the Critical Care Unit at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. I start on the 1st of July. This should work well as I will learn so much with pursuing my nursing degree.

I continue to support my daughter in her endeavors and recently accepted the volunteer position of President for the Band and Orchestra Parents. Our goal is to get our band and orchestra kids to Walt Disney World in June 2010. Wish us luck!

I will try to post more often! Have a great day!

Disneyworld 2010

In June of 2010, the Thomas Jefferson High School Band and Orchestra will be taking a trip to Disneyworld. This trip is for 7 days which includes a 26 hour bus trip to Disney and Home with 5 days at Disneyworld. My daughter really wants me to go as she has been to Disney with her grandparents and is absolutely insistent that I will enjoy it. I hope to go as well however I will be in school full-time and I am unsure if financially we will be able to afford it.

Well onto the bigger picture. I was nominated to be President-elect of the TJHS BOP for the next year. I have been challenged with how to raise money for this trip. Some of the ideas tossed around include the following; flocking yards with flamingos, scrapbook retreat, carwashes, cookbooks in addition to the normal fundraisers. I think I must have been feeling generous when I was asked to be President and hope I can help fulfill the wishes of these kids. If any of you have additional fundraising ideas, please let me know ASAP.

Our first fundraiser will take place in April with cookie sales. This summer we have carwashes planned every weekend and I hope to do the crop in September. As for flocking the yards....we will start that as soon as I have an okay to purchase the flamingos.

I am excited to be a part of this opportunity but also scared that we will fall short of our goal. Think good thoughts for the TJHS Band and Orchestra!

Almost, Maine

Well I have to tell you all about Almost, Maine. If any of you are theatre buffs you may have heard of this play.

Thomas Jefferson High School did this production and had shows on the March 26th & 27th. My daughter was the assistant stage manager and house manager for the play. She prefers to stay behind the scenes and really enjoys being involved in drama. Anyway, this play is about various love scenes happening at 9:00 p.m. in Almost, Maine. It was a series of 9 short stories about love. I give huge kudos to the TJHS drama department for this amazing play.

Last night, TJHS held their annual Jacket Backer night to raise funds to support all the auxiliary programs at TJHS. I was responsible for soliciting donations for the band. Unfortunately due to the economy this year the solicitations were a little harder to come by. The band sold raffle tickets for the last 3 weeks and my name was drawn. I won a new set of pots and pans! Of course, it would have been nice to win the trip for 4 to Disneyworld...however, it is great to win anything.
