Almost, Maine

Well I have to tell you all about Almost, Maine. If any of you are theatre buffs you may have heard of this play.

Thomas Jefferson High School did this production and had shows on the March 26th & 27th. My daughter was the assistant stage manager and house manager for the play. She prefers to stay behind the scenes and really enjoys being involved in drama. Anyway, this play is about various love scenes happening at 9:00 p.m. in Almost, Maine. It was a series of 9 short stories about love. I give huge kudos to the TJHS drama department for this amazing play.

Last night, TJHS held their annual Jacket Backer night to raise funds to support all the auxiliary programs at TJHS. I was responsible for soliciting donations for the band. Unfortunately due to the economy this year the solicitations were a little harder to come by. The band sold raffle tickets for the last 3 weeks and my name was drawn. I won a new set of pots and pans! Of course, it would have been nice to win the trip for 4 to Disneyworld...however, it is great to win anything.

What will I be when I grow up?

Well, I am still trying to get into blogging. Found some great inspiration on line and as soon as I have a new laptop will plan to blog at least every other day.

Some happenings since last time...

I had an amazing job interview for a position that 2 months ago I would have begged for. Today, not so much. You see I have been a non-profit database manager for the last 9 years and was laid off from 2 positions in the last 2 years. Yes, 2 positions in 2 years. Anyway, this position is with a great company doing the same thing. Is it right up my alley? Yes. Is it what I want to do? Most likely not. I came to the realization about a week after my last layoff that I want, no need, no CRAVE the idea of returning to school to better myself. You see, about 16 years ago, I was working as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and signed up to return to school to become a Registered Nurse. Anyway, low and behold on June 3 of 1993, I found out I was pregnant with my beautiful daughter. I couldn't start school that fall as planned as I would only get one semester in before needing to take time off to have my girl. I guess I shouldn't say couldn't, I felt the need to wait. Well, come September of 1993, I was classified a high risk pregnancy and could no longer work as a CNA.

My hubby and I were poor working class folks and I could not afford to not work, so I started temporary work in clerical. And in some form or another I have been a desk jockey for the last 15 1/2 years. Well after my last layoff I decided I wanted to return to school to fulfill a dream. It will be a rough couple of years as I still can't afford to not work and will be going to school full time. Not to mention I also have a daughter who is in high school and involved in everything.

So, for all of you who manage to work, go to school and still make family time...how do you do it? I am looking for any pointers you can provide.

Blog. Why am I starting a blog. Hmmm....good question.

I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister and student. I am leaning toward middle age...UGH!

I love to clog dance, scrapbook and shop. What lady doesn't like to shop!!

I am wonderfully blessed to be a mother to a 15 year old and wife to an amazing man.

After 15 years in the clerical field I am returning to school to become a nurse. Nursing has been a lifelong dream of mine and I am excited to finally return to school. I was working as a CNA 16 years ago and had registered for school for the fall of 1993 when I became pregnant. Unfortunately due to high risk, I was not able to continue work as a CNA and started working clerical to make ends meet. 16 years later it is time to pursue my dream.

I guess this is my way of keeping a diary for the next few years as I try to find work, be a student and a good mother and wife.

Take care!
